How to bring positive energy into your life
Rising living expenses, slowing economic growth, increasing risk of being laid off, the advent of the social media leading to increased isolation… Many problems today give rise to negative emotions and experiences such as stress, anxiety, loneliness and depression.
2017 marked the highest levels of stress, sadness and pain from a global survey (https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.livescience.com/amp/63563-world-emotions-gallup-survey.html), showing how growth and development may have increased our material standard of living but over the years, human beings have neglected our non-material standard of living (including out emotional, mental and spiritual well-being).
The industrialisation created massive employmemt opportunities as workers could add value to the economy by providing labour to earn money and enjoy the perks most in the era could never dream of. However, this has led to the commodification of human labour, resulting in the world’s education system over-emphasising on teaching technical skills, but does not teach students how to be happy, how to be positive or how to be independent thinkers.
Most people today lack the knowledge of how to live their lives simply as humans because their education was highly limited to mastering a specific skill, working hard for years and years to make ends meet, often ending up in jobs they do not like, leading unfulfilled lives.
“Energy is contagious, positive and negative alike. I will forever be mindful of what and who I am allowing into my space.”
– Alex Elle
More often than not, we allow external factors such as the economic conditions or other people’s words to sway our own emotions and mental state.
BUT…
You can control your own emotions.
1. Connect with your inner self
Before you manage your emotions, you should tap into your subconsciousness where your true self lies, in order to truly understand your emotions
- Find a cozy place where you feel safe can relax completely
- Turn the temperature to 21 to 24 degree Celsius where it is most conducive
- Shut out any unnecessary noise or lights
Once you find a comfortable position, stop moving and breathe deeply, shifting your focus onto allowing your physical body to relax each time you exhale.
Visualisation
You can use visualisation to better connect with your soul, such as by imagining yourself to have alternating contrasting states (being light or heavy, feeling warm or cool)
2. Letting go
Continue to take slow and deep breathes.
When you exhale, focus on a single negative emotion (stress, sadness, anger) you want to release.
Focus on another negative emotion you want to let go of and exhale.
You can only bring in positive energy once you have cleared the burden of the negative energy.
3. Bringing in
Gratitude
Think of a few things that you are grateful for, such that you trick your mind into being contented with what you already have.
You can be thankful for…
… a loving family…
… being alive as a human being…
… having kind friends…
… the sun for providing light…
… or anything positive that you can think of.
Once you are ready to give thanks to the small things in life, your perspective in life will shift to allow greater things to enter.
Inhaling
As you breathe in, focus on the positive energy (happiness, calmness, motivation) you would like to bring into your life.
“Please take responsibility for the energy you bring into this space.”
-Dr Jill Bolte Taylor
Your energy stems from your thoughts, and you can do whatever it takes to change your mental and emotional states to those that you deserve.
